108 Sun Salutations

Sunday January 1, 2017; 1pm - 3:00pm

Why 108?

108 has been a significant and even a sacred number for a long time, and this number is explained in many different ways.

Just to name a few:

  • There are 108 beads in a mala (an eastern rosary used both in Hinduism and Buddhism for counting mantras, chants or prayers).
  • There are 54 letters in the Sanskrit alphabet. Each has masculine and feminine, Shiva and Shakti. 54 times 2 is 108.
  • Some say there are 108 feelings, with 36 related to past, 36 related to present, and 36 related to future.
  • This number also connects the Sun, Moon, and Earth: The average distance of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is 108 times their respective diameters.

This powerful yoga practice will be led by multiple instructors and will be done is 3 sets of 36 Sun Salutations with short breaks after each set. Modifications will be offered to make this practice enjoyable for yogis of all levels of experience.
